Mr. Yasuhiro Yamashita
Olympic and World Champion
Japan's National Judo Coach

Here are just a few pictures taken during the May 3, 1998 Judo "Spring Clinic" at the Steveston Community Centre Gymnasium, Richmond BC Canada.

The event was sponsered by Steveston Judo Club and Judo BC.
I have observed a lot of "internet" chatting and questions ... and gossip ... about Yamashita (Judo - Japan) and Oleg Taktarov (Judo & Sambo - Russia).

I don't know Mr. Yamashita but I am a very good friend of Oleg. In fact Oleg stays with me while in Vancouver and we went together to the "Spring Clinic."

Oleg was 13 years old when he met Mr. Yamashita and he was and has been since then a "personal inspiration" for Oleg.

Oleg is about 6 feet and his weight is indeed about 190-200 very solid pounds. Have a look at the pictures below,  I'm 5'11½ and 195# ... so maybe you can estimate the height and weight of Yamashita. 

Oleg Taktarov and I hold the highest esteem for Mr. Yasuhiro Yamashita.  I thought the "clinic" was very successful and I was very positively impressed with what I saw of Judo BC so far.

Oleg started out with Judo as a kid in Russia and only later did he ad the training in Sambo. I believe he got his "degree" of Master of Sport in Sambo in 1990. He is a
3rd Degree Black Belt in Judo,
4th Degree Black Belt in Jujitsu
6th Degree Black Belt in Sambo (in fact he is a Master of Sport in Sambo, Sport Sambo does not have belt grading systems, but for North America the equivalent achievement of Oleg in Sambo would correspond with a 6th Dan )
