2000 AAU GRAND NATIONALS SOMBO CHAMPIONSHIPS

All information subject to final confirmation on 1 January 2000.
The 2000 FIAS World Open Sombo Championships will be Championships will be held in the
Hara Arena in Dayton, Ohio U.S.A. 28 June 2000.
This event will be run on TEN mats, in conjunction with the AAU GRAND NATIONALS
WRESTLING CHAMPIONSHIPS, which also includes:

The AAU GRAND NATIONALS is the USSA recognized Open National Sombo
Championships for youth age categories (8-20). Foreign athletes welcome. AAU medals
awarded.
The FIAS WORLD OPEN is the FIAS world championships for the Espoir,
Senior and Masters Categories.
AAU medals awarded to all place winners in order of finish.
Special awards also presented to international participants (one per nation) in order of
finish using mass scoring system.

DIRECTIONS TO VENUE:
Hara Arena is close to Dayton International Airport.
Exit the airport to the right onto Rte. 40, heading towards Englewood.
Cross the dam and go to the end of the road.
Turn right at the end onto Route 48.
Proceed about 5 miles (8 kilometers) and turn right on Shiloh Springs road.
The Hara Arena will be on your right after about a half of a mile (about one kilometer).

The winners of each age group will receive AAU medals.
The champions of the 5 age groups will wrestle for overall title and special award.
ELIGIBILITY:
Open to all amateur athletes. Countries may send more than one athlete per weight class
(only top athlete will count for world standings).
ENTRY FEE and COSTS:
1. All participants must pay entry fee described below.
2. All participants must also have the 2000 AAU Card (includes insurance.)
3. Foreign participants (non-U.S.A.) must have new 2000 FIAS.
4. Foreign participants (non-U.S.A.) must also have new 2000 FIAS License Book
(2000 stamp fee waived.)

1. Entry fee of $50.00 (includes $15.00 late fee)
2. AAU Card (insurance) $20.00 AAU Card (Adults) or $10.00 (youth)
3. FIAS License Book (foreign athletes) $5.00

No personal checks accepted.
This entry fee entitles each athlete to compete in all three styles: Sombo, Greco-Roman
and freestyle.
NOTE: The AAU card is in addition to the entry fee. All participants must have a
current, valid 2000 AAU card for insurance and access to floor ( athletes AND coaches).
Card must be presented at registration--no exceptions.
If you do not have a card at that time, you will be required to purchase a card. Cards
available for purchase at
registration ($10.00 Youth or $20.00 Adult & Masters). Cost of AAU card includes
deductible secondary accident insurance, in case of injury.
International participants (Athletes and coaches) must also possess a current FIAS
License book.
License books available for purchase at registration at a cost of $5.00 U.S. Dollars each.
Must be the new, official FIAS book issued in 2000.
The Price of the individual FIAS stamp for 2000 is waived for this year.

All participants are responsible for their own accomodation, including room, food and
drink.

PAIRING:
International vertical pairing system will be used. Competition Director reserves the
right to cancel, change, add or combine weight classes or to change the pairing system.
Exhibition matches may be scheduled during or after the competition, if possible.
UNIFORMS:
Red and blue sombo jacket with matching red and blue wrestling singlet or shorts REQUIRED
(one of each color or reversible) with sombo or wrestling shoes. Some jackets and
equipment for sale at tournament site.
sAthletes must also carry white handkerchief.
Participants must provide their own soap, towels and locks.
Proof of age required (Driver's license, passport or school record).
AWARDS:
--AAU Championship medals to the top three place-winners in all weight categories,
regardless of nationality.
--Special awards to World Open Sombo place-winners, based on MASS scoring system--using
one athlete per country (top place winner only) in each weight category.
--Certificates to all participants.
--Trophy to top Senior, Espoir and Masters National Team.
--T-shirt to all participants.
